Commissioning Checklist for Multi-Generator Control Systems

Commissioning a multi-generator control system should prove the plant’s operating modes, not just confirm that screens and signals appear.

A structured commissioning process reduces risk during handover. Multi-generator systems include several layers: field wiring, control panels, generator controllers, breakers, protection, PLC logic, HMI screens, SCADA, telemetry and site procedures.

Pre-commissioning checks

  • Panel inspection, wiring checks, labels and drawing markups
  • IO checks from field devices through to PLC, HMI and SCADA
  • Controller parameters, backups, communications and network settings
  • Breaker status, permissives, trips, alarms and protection interfaces
  • Operator mode selection, lockouts and manual controls

Functional tests

  • Start, stop, fail-to-start, emergency stop and trip sequences
  • Synchronising, breaker close/open and bus status behaviour
  • Load sharing, set sequencing, demand response and reserve logic
  • Alarm priority, alarm text, event time stamps and acknowledgement
  • Remote monitoring, reports, trends and support data capture

The handover pack should include backups, settings, as-built markups, test records, outstanding defects and the practical information needed by operators and maintainers.

A commissioning checklist should be specific to the plant. Generic checklists help, but site operating modes and risks need to be captured.
